New Breast Implant – Is it Ideal?
When it comes to breast implants there is a new player in town. The Ideal Implant (idealimplant.com) is a saline implant that has the feel of silicone. The implant has two separate lumens or chambers. The inner lumen contains most of the saline and its volume is not adjustable. The outer lumen which is the adjustable chamber has baffling that controls how the saline moves and, as a result, also feels. This structured implant also demonstrates less rippling and contours better to the chest wall.
What is even more significant is the fact that a 7 year study showed the rupture and capsule formation of these implants to be significantly lower than their competitors.
Capsule Contracture Rate for Primary Augmentation
- Ideal Implant 1.8% at 7 years
- Allergan Gel 7.4 % at 7 years
- Mentor Gel 3.4% at 6 yr
Deflation/Rupture Rate for Primary Augmentation
- Ideal Implant 1.8% at 7 years
- Allergan Gel 7.4 % at 7 years
- Mentor Gel 3.4% at 6 years
- Sientra Gel 5.4 % at 6 years
In summary, I just used the Ideal Implant for the first time and found from the perspective of shape and projection it gives a beautiful result on the table and post-operatively. From the perspective of safety, shape and feel, this new implant may in fact come close to being ideal.
