What Are Preventative Botox Injections?
Preventative Botox is botulinum toxin injections that are used to prevent wrinkles before they form. While Botox is often used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles after they show up, the formula has also been shown to stop wrinkles before they start.
When you start using Botox at a younger age, the injections can block the nerve signals from the brain to the facial muscles that are involved in the facial expressions that lead to the dynamic wrinkles in the first place. If those muscles can’t contract, wrinkles can’t form. Or at least not as early as they normally would.
Benefits of Starting Botox Early
There are a wide range of benefits to starting Botox early. The first and most obvious benefit is that the injections will stop lines and wrinkles before they start. You can maintain your youthful appearance and keep lines and wrinkles at bay for years to come. On top of that, starting Botox early when you don’t have any lines and wrinkles means we use smaller doses of the formula, ensuring you achieve more natural-looking results. No one will notice that you aren’t developing wrinkles. They will simply know that you look younger than you are.
Preventative Botox also typically requires fewer treatments. Since you aren’t dealing with deep wrinkles, you will need far fewer injections per year.
Ideal Age and Skin Types for Preventative Botox Treatments
The ideal age for preventative Botox can vary from person to person, but we generally recommend receiving early Botox in your late 20s to early 30s. As for skin type, those with thinner skin and who have a family history of early wrinkles are typically better candidates for preventative Botox. Excess sun exposure, smoking, stress, and other lifestyle factors can also affect when you should start receiving early Botox.
Preventative Botox for Millennials & Gen Z in NYC
Preventative Botox is becoming a trend among aging millennials in their 30s and Gen Z who are going into their mid and late 20s in NYC. Both generations are getting to that stage when they are starting to think about getting older and the lines and wrinkles that come with aging. While skincare has been trendy for both generations, skincare, especially over-the-counter skincare, can’t do it all. With Botox, you can prevent lines and wrinkles and look as young as you are.
Forehead, Frown Lines, and More: Where to Use Botox to Prevent Wrinkles
Unlike some other neuromodulators, Botox is not approved for use on only one area of the face. Preventive Botox can be used on forehead lines, frown lines between the crows, crow’s feet around the eyes, bunny lines on the sides of the nose, and smile lines around the mouth.
What to Expect During Your Preventive Botox Appointment
Preventive Botox treatment is relatively straightforward. We’ll start by cleansing the treatment area. We can apply a topical anesthetic for your comfort, but most patients don’t need it. From there, we will mark the injection areas and, using a very thin needle, inject the Botox formula into the targeted areas. How many injections you need will depend on several factors. Treatment typically doesn’t take more than 20-30 minutes.
Is Preventative Botox Safe? Risks & Consideration
As with any treatment, there are some risks and side effects that come with Botox. After your injections, you may notice some slight redness, swelling, and bruising, but those effects typically go away after a day. Headaches and flu-like symptoms are also possible. Rarer complications include drooping eyelids and facial asymmetry.
