Overview

Manhattan plastic surgeon, Dr. Kenneth Rothaus, uses Sculptra to restore and augment volume over the cheekbone, the cheek, the nasolabial fold, chin, along the mandible, the marionette region, the temporal region and the brow. Once injected, the Sculptra is absorbed over a period of approximately 6 weeks and is replaced by your own collagen. Studies have shown that more than 80 % of this collagen remains after two years. Sculptra must be injected in a very dilute solution in small amounts at each session. For that reason, it often takes 3 sessions spaced 6 weeks apart to achieve the desired result. In many ways, that is a positive as it allows the patient to view the change as it occurs and alleviates any concerns about over correction.

What To Expect

Sculptra is performed inside our plastic surgery center during an in-office appointment. The  medication is pre-mixed with a local anesthetic for comfort and is injected through a small soft cannulae. The procedure is mostly painless, but any discomfort will be controlled, in addition to the local anesthesia, with cold compressions and ice packs. The number of syringes used to attain the desired results will be discussed prior to treatment. The dosage will depend on the number of areas where volume restoration is required.

After Treatment

There will be some mild swelling and redness at the injection sites immediately following a Sculptra treatment. These side effects will subside quickly and normal activities can be resumed, however exercise should be avoided for 24 hours. Sculptra is different from other injectable fillers because the results do not happen immediately. They take place over time because of the ongoing collagen production process. The final results can usually be seen a few weeks after the treatment and will typically last up to 2 years.
