About Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a popular way to strip away dead skin cells, leaving behind a fresh, rejuvenated layer of skin. Manhattan plastic surgeon, Dr. Kenneth Rothaus, offers chemical peels, along with a number of other nonsurgical methods to improve the look and feel of the skin. Chemical peels can be used on the face, neck, or hands. It is a treatment that is performed within our office that applies a chemical solution to the skin, which causes it to exfoliate and peel away. The new skin is smoother, clearer, and looks and feels younger. There are varying grades and types of chemical peels used depending on the condition of your skin and your overall aesthetic goal. We will do a full skin analysis during the initial consultation and create a treatment plan that works for you.
Chemical peels are structured for individuals of all skin types and colors. The best candidates for this treatment are those who:
- Are in overall good health
- Have fine wrinkles, mild hyperpigmentation, and diminished skin tone
- Have not used Accutane in the last two years
- Do not have specific dermatologic medical conditions that would preclude peels
What To Expect
We will provide pre-treatment instructions during the consultation. The vast majority of chemical peels may be safely performed in our office. Our trained nurses and assistants will select the best chemical or chemical mix for the individual patient.
Chemical Peel Recovery
It is common to experience flaking, scaling, redness or dryness of the skin after a chemical peel. These symptoms are temporary and will begin to dissipate as the skin becomes accustomed to the treatment. An after peel ointment may be applied to the face and patients will be instructed on the frequency of application of this ointment as part of the post-op home care. To help aid healing, it is essential that patients follow these specific instructions. The use of sunscreen is strongly recommended after a chemical peel.
