When post people think about rhinoplasty or nose surgery (or closed nose job), they think of an intensive, invasive surgery, but it doesn’t have to be that way. With a closed rhinoplasty, you can achieve the beautiful results you want without the long recovery time or visible scarring. Dr. Rothaus has the high level of skill and years of experience necessary to perform this advanced procedure.
What is a Closed Rhinoplasty?
A closed rhinoplasty (also called an endonasal rhinoplasty) is a surgical procedure that alters the natural nasal anatomy from inside the nose. Instead of pulling back the nasal skin to reveal the nasal structure, everything is done through incisions made through the nostrils. This is less invasive than an open rhinoplasty procedure and means less visible scarring.

Your Closed Rhinoplasty Consultation
During your closed rhinoplasty consultation, Dr. Rothaus will listen to your concerns, answer your questions, perform an exam, and review your medical history. From there, he’ll determine if a closed rhinoplasty if right for you. If you are a good candidate, he’ll build a treatment plan that’s tailored to your needs. After your consult, most patients can schedule your surgery date.
How Does the Closed Rhinoplasty Procedure Work?
In a closed rhinoplasty, Dr. Rothaus will make all incisions inside the nostrils. The procedure will start with the administration of general anesthesthia to ensure you’re comfortable. Once you are asleep, Dr. Rothause will make incisions inside the nostrils and reshape the nose to your specifications. Because he has limited visibility, it takes a skilled surgeon like Dr. Rothaus to do this procedure right.
Once everything is reshaped, the incisions will be closed with sutures or stitches, and you’ll be able to start the recovery process. In total, the procedure typically takes about 1-2 hours.
Closed Rhinoplasty Recovery
After the closed rhinoplasty surgery, you’ll need a friend or family member to drive you home and take care of your for the first day or two. You’ll wear a cast or splint for approximately 5 to 7 days. This will help support your nose as it heals and reduce any swelling. You can expect to take a few days off work, and you’ll want to sleep with your head elevated to help ease swelling and promote the healing process.
You’ll also want to avoid strenuous activity, excessive chewing, swimming, alcohol and smoking, blowing your nose, pulling clothes over your head, and sleeping on your face. Dr. Rothaus will let you know when you can go back to your normal routine.
After a week or so, your cast or splint will be removed, revealing your new nose. You may still have some bruising and swelling around the nose and eyes, but you should begin to see what your results will look like. It can take a whole year for swelling to fully go down.
