Consultation for Neck Rejuvenation
I just finished a comprehensive neck lift consultation with a patient who wished for rejuvenation of her neck. We covered all the options: surgery, devices, and injectables. This question comes up so frequently during consultations that I thought it would make sense to include the points covered in our discussion in this RothausMD blog.
The components that must be evaluated in planning the rejuvenation of a neck include the:
- Neck skin (loose skin/sagging skin/excess skin, crepiness, wrinkles, and pigment)
- Subcutaneous tissue (excess adipose tissue and/or a double chin)
- Underlying neck muscle (neck or platysmal bands)
- Submandibular glands
Surgical Neck Rejuvenation
Our surgical options are quite effective at addressing most of these issues in one plastic surgery procedure. Although sedation is available for those neck lift patients who wish it, we are very commonly now performing neck lift surgery or neck rejuvenation surgery in the office under local anesthesia. For this cosmetic surgery, the patient’s incision is limited to the area behind the ear, around the earlobe, and under the chin. The surgical neck lift procedure achieves the most rejuvenation, but even under local anesthesia, surgery may not be the first choice for everybody looking to remove and rejuvenate excess skin, recontour and achieve a younger-looking appearance.
Non-Surgical Neck Rejuvenation
We have a variety of non-surgical options to address the issues listed above. We will use either individually or in combination:
- Fractional Ablative and Non-Ablative lasers (Helix, CoolPeel)
- RF Microneedling (Virtue)
- Ultrasound (Sofwave)
- Injectables (Hyperdilute Radiesse, Botox, Daxxify, Xeomin, Jeuveau)
- Laser Lipolysis (Precision, SmartLipo, LipoAI)
- Threads – (Silhouette, PDO barbed)
These cosmetic procedures often require a series of treatments, can achieve excellent results on their own, and are frequently added after a surgical procedure as a maintenance treatment. The recommended treatments for any individual are obviously best decided during a face-to-face in-person consultation.
