The Manhattan cosmetic surgery office of Dr. Kenneth O. Rothaus provides patients with countless options for improving the aesthetics of the skin. We offer laser scar treatment to patients in New York City, Manhattan, Westchester, and nearby areas of new York who have unsightly or bothersome scars, such as acne scars, to help diminish the appearance and lighten the color of the scar. While most scars will not disappear completely, laser scar treatment has the ability to lighten the scar so that it blends in with the nearby skin.

Laser scar treatment – many types of scars – acne, hypertrophic, etc. all require different treatment

How Laser Scar Treatment Performed?

Dr. Rothaus is proud to have the Lux 1540 and the DEKA SmartXide fractional CO2 laser on-site to assist with scar treatment.

The Lux 1540 is a non-ablative laser resurfacing treatment that leaves the epidermis layer of the skin intact, while addressing a specific problem area, such as a scar. It can help lighten and reduce the appearance of surgical, traumatic, and acne related scarring. This laser does require a topical anesthetic for larger areas such as acne scarring on the face, but there is no downtime associated with the treatment. Most patients need approximately 3-4 visits using the Lux to see maximum results.

The DEKA SmarthXide Dot 50 watt fractional CO2 laser is an ablative laser treatment that actually creates a pattern of microscopic vertical channels starting on the surface of the skin. The heat generated by this laser is much greater than the non-ablative lasers and leads to a significant improvement in scarring and associated pigmentation. It is a hemostatic laser, which means there is no bleeding, however there is some recovery due to the redness and dryness after the procedure. The DEKA is used to ameliorate the appearance of scars related to acne, trauma and/or surgery.
