Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a surgical procedure designed to enhance appearance and it is offered at Dr. Rothaus’ New York City practice. As we grow older, loss of skin elasticity and other factors result in signs of aging becoming more evident. The changes of the aging eyelids include an excess of skin, wrinkles forming, drooping of the upper eyelid itself, and prominence of the fat pads around the eye. This can make us look old and tired. Drooping of the upper eyelid can even interfere with vision. Blepharoplasty is a procedure designed to improve upon the appearance of the eyelid. This improvement can help one to look younger and more refreshed. At Dr. Rothaus’ New York City practice there are various blepharoplasty techniques available including:
Blepharoplasty is commonly performed as an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia supplement by intravenous sedation administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. Sutures are removed within 3 to 5 days after the surgery. Most patients are able to return to work within one week and resume aerobic activities within 3 weeks.
